About the smooth coat type
Smooth coats are one of the easiest to maintain but are often prone to shedding. The coat turns over anywhere from weekly to 3 monthly. The very short coat lies flat, making it very smooth, usually with minimal texture or wave. Darker colours tend to be extra shiny.

A smooth coat doesn’t usually need intense cleansing. Most tend not to hold oil or odour like short coats, so a standard or moisturising shampoo is a popular choice. Smooth-coated breeds tend to have softer, more sensitive skin. Although less common, some can be more oil or odour prone than others, which is when a stronger cleansing shampoo is recommended. Conditioner is not essential for smooth coats, but will leave the coat softer, silkier and shinier. Look for a conditioner that can be diluted. Smooth coats lack the natural protection from the elements that oilier coats have, so if prone to dry skin or a flaky coat, use conditioner undiluted to add extra protection.
TIPS FOR SHEDDING: Most smooth coats are high shed, some constantly, some go through seasonal, high-shed times. When shedding becomes an issue, use a Deshedding Shampoo to get dead coat out during bath time, instead of being shed out slowly all around the house.
